NCPGG Industrial Experience Scholarships.
ALL NCPGG Honours students
receive a minimum $A4000 scholarship
for their six week industry experience period. It is intended that this
should increase in the future. Students spending this period with an interstate
sponsor should note that there is no other funding granted specifically
for their living costs while away from Adelaide.
Industry Geoscience Scholarships.
Companies have coupled sponsorship of
an Honours project (and the funding of the corresponding Industrial Experience
scholarship) with employment as a summer student during the vacation period
prior to starting the NCPGG Honours Programme. Last year Woodside, Esso,
and Strike Oil have each funded a scholarship. They are awarded on a competitive
basis between NCPGG students. We plan to progressively involve other companies
in this scheme. It has the benefit of allowing a student to obtain summer
work with NCPGG acting as the job broker, earn some additional funds prior
to starting at the Centre, get experience in the industry environment,
and gain exposure to a potential employer.
NB. It is important that students wishing
to be considered for these scholarships apply for admission to the NCPGG
by early November at the latest, so that the successful candidate(s) will
be able to undertake a reasonable period of vacation work with the sponsoring
In 1999 industry sponsored two HECS scholarships
which pay an student's HECS contribution for their honours year. When available,
they are awarded on a competitive basis between NCPGG students.
Applications are invited in August each
year for up to two scholarships of $A1000 each for Honours (and first year
M.Sc.) students pursuing projects related to the petroleum industry at
South Australian tertiary institutions. NCPGG students have been very successful
in gaining these awards in competition with other institutions.
The AR Riddle Scholarship
Applications are invited in March and
August of each year for a small number of scholarships valued at up to
$A1000 to be awarded to an Honours student enrolled at the University of
Adelaide who achieved credit levels in third year and can establish financial
